How Does Latisse® Work?
In 2001, Allergan developed a medicated eye drop used to treat intraocular pressure. During the clinical trials of this product, researchers noticed that patients began to grow longer, fuller, and darker lashes. This led Allergan to conduct a separate study of the medication’s active ingredient, bimatoprost, to better understand the effect it had on the eyelashes. After a series of clinical trials, researchers concluded that bimatoprost could be safely used to add volume and definition to the lashes, and Latisse® was created. While it is not entirely understood how bimatoprost is able to improve the appearance of the lashes, it has been clinically proven to be both safe and effective.
What Can I Expect from Latisse® Treatment?
Latisse® is a treatment that is completed in the comfort of your own home. Patients must apply the product to the base of their upper eyelashes once per night. Before applying the product, it’s important that any makeup or contact lenses a patient may be wearing are removed. The entire duration of the treatment lasts 16 weeks, after which, patients will have beautiful, stunning lashes for years to come.
