Is laser hair removal in Mill Creek right for you?
It is a problem that everyone has, but no one wants to admit. Unwanted body hair plagues men and women of all ages, and it can become a never-ending battle. You shave it, pluck it, or dissolve it with a special cream, and the next thing you know, it’s back with a vengeance. If you are looking for a long-term solution that allows you to enjoy flawlessly smooth skin, without the hassle, you are likely a candidate for laser hair removal.
How laser treatment works
Laser energy passes through the skin, and it is absorbed by pigment in the hair follicle. This causes a thermal reaction damaging the follicle sufficiently to render it inactive. When this technique was originally developed, it was restricted to individuals with fair skin and dark hairs. However, the technique and technology have evolved. Today’s advanced systems, such as the Palomar Icon IPL system that we use here at North Sound Dermatology Aesthetics, can safely pass through the skin, and selectively target the pigment in the follicle.
Newer, better solutions
The Palomar system enables us to treat all skin types. It is also effective on lighter-colored hairs, though some pigment is necessary. Very light blonde or gray hairs may have little to no pigment in the follicles, making them unresponsive to laser treatment. During your initial consultation, we will examine the area and determine whether laser treatment is a viable option. Elizabeth Hagen, LCA, of North Sound Dermatology Aesthetics is well known for her expertise in laser hair removal treatments, and she is a national trainer for the Palomar system.
Alternatives to laser treatment
Prior to the development of laser treatment, electrolysis was the premier solution for permanent hair reduction. The procedure is very precise, treating each hair follicle individually, which makes it quite slow for treating a large area. Due to the popularity of lasers, electrolysis is becoming something of a lost art, making it more difficult for patients to find a truly skilled, experienced clinician. Elizabeth Hagen, LCA, has extensive training, experience, and expertise in electrolysis, as well as laser hair removal, allowing her to deliver the best, customized solution for each patient.
