What is Fractional Laser Skin Rejuvenation?

Fractional Laser Skin Rejuvenation is a method of laser skin resurfacing which erases surface skin imperfections to erase skin damage. Fractional laser skin rejuvenation treatments can dramatically erase years from your appearance by improving the appearance, quality and texture of your skin and complexion.

What System Do We Use?

We use one of the premier fractional lasers, the Palomar 1540 Fractional Laser which is a non-ablative Erbium laser that is part of the Palomar Icon Aesthetic System.

How does it work?

Fractional lasers work below the skin’s surface by targeting both the epidermis and dermis. It does this by delivering a laser beam that is divided into thousands of tiny but deep columns of treatment into the skin, called microthermal treatment zones. Old epidermal pigmentedcells are expelled, and the penetration of collagen in the dermis causes a reaction that leads to collagen remodeling and new collagen formation.

How long is the treatment and how many treatments will I need?

Treatment time depends on which area is being treated, but a full face takes approximately 30 min and we recommend between 4-6 treatments. Since these treatments are fractionated and less invasive, generally three to five sessions are recommended for optimal results. Treatments are performed every four to six weeks.

Does it hurt?

Fractional laser is not painful for most patients; a mild prickling sensation can be felt. We ensure patients are comfortable by applying a topical anesthetic cream before the treatment.

Do I have to take time off work?

Most people go back to work right away as there is minimal downtime. Right after the treatment you may experience a sensation of a slight sunburn with some slight pinkness. Minimal swelling and peeling is expected for the first couple of days as new epidermal cells.

What conditions can be treated with Fractional laser?

Many conditions related to aging and texture of the skin can be treated. These include:

  • Sun damage (wrinkles, fine line, crow’s feet, aging skin)
  • Skin texture and tone issues
  • Enlarged pores
  • Sagging skin
  • Scarring
  • Stretch marks (striae)
  • Skin irregularities and blemishes
